FY08 Scholarship Recipients
Stephanie McCoy
Stephanie is currently a freshman in chemical engineering at the University of Iowa and spent last summer as a student trainee at Caterpillar Inc. in the Environmental Technologies group. In this capacity, she gathered, analyzed and presented data on a urea injector, even though she had not even started her engineering education. Stephanie has received the "Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry Award" at Washington Community High School, is an Illinois State Scholar, and was named the "Most Inspirational Female Runner" of the Washington Community High School Cross-Country Team in 2006. Stephanie is also a published author with "Farmdale Park Offers Something for Everyone" in the Washington Times Reporter. At the University of Iowa, Stephanie is a member of WISE, Women in Science and Engineering Learning Community, and is involved in 24-7, a college youth ministry.
Sara Klinger
Sara is currently a freshman in industrial engineering at Bradley University. In 2007, Sara was a warehouse operator at 3M in Dekalb, IL and worked to provide optimum customer service distributing to other customers per their specifications and instructions. This experience fits perfectly with her goal of pursuing warehousing or manufacturing with her industrial engineering degree. Sara entered Bradley with 21 credit hours, is on the Deans List, and is an Illinois State Scholar. Despite her academic achievements, she is involved in the Institute of Industrial Engineering, the Society of Women Engineers, and Tying in Touch, where she tutors 4th graders at Tying Peoria Public Elementary School in spelling and reading. Sara is also a member of the Bradley Basketball Band, Symphonic Band, and Bradley Swingers. While attending Dixon High School, Sara was named to the Who's Who Among American High Schools.
Stephanie and Sara were chosen from a number of qualified applicants and they will each be receiving a $250 scholarship. To be eligible for the scholarships, students needed to be a female high school senior, continuing college student, transfer college student, graduate student or re-entry student who would be attending an ABET accredited engineering school to pursue a BS or higher degree full time or studying an ABET accredited program offered outside an engineering school in the Fall of 2008. Applicant's home or school address needed to be inside the SWE-Central Illinois section boundaries. Both Bradley University and University of Illinois fall within these boundaries.
