Celebrate National Engineers Week with an evening out. Join area engineers from organizations like ASME, IEEE, IES, NSBE and many more as well as
professionals from local companies and engineering students from the University of Iowa.
The program comprises of our keynote speaker's address, followed
by a formal dinner and dance. There will be a DJ throughout the program. This
fundraiser is geared to increase funds to help organize technical, professional
development, networking, outreach and educational events for the
next fiscal year.

Program: Join IEEE and INCOSE for a joint tour of the Amana Hydro-Electric Generation Facility as profiled
this summer in the Cedar Rapids Gazette
Bios: Laura Hoover is the Executive Director of the Amana Colonies Historical Sites Foundation.
The Sites Foundation has owned the Amana millrace and Hydro since 1994 and is dedicated to preserving and
protecting the historic quality of life within the Amana Colonies National Historic Landmark.
The Amana millrace is considered an integral part of the Colonies history and future
Jeff Gipple is Line Superintendent for the Amana Society Service Company and has worked for the service company
for 21 years. Prior to 1994, Jeff was directly responsible for the operation of the Amana Hydro Plant.
Since 1994, Jeff has served as Consultant and Hydro Superintendent for the Amana Colonies Historical Sites Foundation.
Itinerary:
4:40PM 1st 20minute Tour of the Amana Millstream Brewery begins.
5:00PM Teresa Albert, Millstream Brewery Co-owner, can guide up to 20 "earlybird" arrivals at a
time through the brewery during the 2 tours.
until 6:00PM Social Hour early arrivals can optionally sample the beer at the Millstream Brewery,
5:30PM Meet at the Hydroelectric Generation Facility for the tour and presentations; May become two "shifts"
depending on attendance.

Top Ten Tasty Ways to a New You in

- SWE Region H Conference
When: Fri, Jan 26th - Sun, Jan 28th
Where: Northwestern University, Chicago
Join SWE-ECI at the Region H conference to network with colleagues and women from 8
different states. Region H is the Heartland Region, which is comprised of Illinois,
Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. It is
the largest Region with over 2800 members including professionals and students. There
is currently eleven professional sections and forty-five student sections.

Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)
Training

The R.A.D. System is the largest women's self defense program in the country. There are over
6,000 certified instructors in the United States and Canada. The program has been taught at more
than 1,400 colleges and universities. The University of Iowa offers classes through the Department
of Public Safety. All courses are free to University students and have a lifetime free practice
and return policy.
Basic Self Defense
12 hour course usually broken down into 3 or 4 hour segments.
Free student manual.
Ego free learning environment.
Instruction and participation in self-defense techniques.
Opportunity to participate in several simulations.

High School Engineer Program
When: Feb 19th - Feb 23rd
Where: Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids
This program is geared to introduce high schoolers to science and engineering.
Professionals that are working in industry introduce engineering in
the classroom through discussions and talks on one engineering
discipline everyday of Eweek.
