About SWE-ECI

Aspire, Advance, Achieve are the Society of Women Engineer's goals. SWE offers engineers; both male and female, the opportunity to feed one's passion to learn and teach others! SWE-ECI is a local section of the Society of Women Engineers and is aimed at providing a culture and community for networking and professional development of engineers around the East and Central Iowa area.

Mission

SWE-ECI's mission is to provide a network for professional development and growth for all engineers and promote engineering to students in the East and Central Iowa region. SWE-ECI aims to attain SWE's goal to Aspire, Achieve and Advance by introducing the community to engineering through various professional development and outreach programs.

Cabinet

About the Cabinet - Roles and Responsibilities

All cabinet members share responsibility for the various activities throughout the year. Some of the duties each cabinet member is assigned are listed below:

  • President - Presides over the meetings and acts as the spokes person for ECI in the community. Delegates SWE responsibilities to other cabinet members per their position.
  • Vice President - Presides over the meetings in the absence of the President and acts as the primary contact for all committees formed throughout the year. Acts as a back up/ helper for other cabinet members.
  • Treasurer - Acts as the section banker and accountant for the section. Helps set up budgets with the aid of other cabinet members and oversees ECI’s financial transactions.
  • Secretary - Notifies members of meetings, takes minutes of meetings, sends out minutes to members, and is responsible for the creation ECI Newsletter.
  • Section Representative - Attends and represents our section at the Regional and National level and keeping our section informed of changes occurring at these levels. This position requires attending the National Conference.
  • Communications Secretary - Updates and adds information to the ECI website. Relays general member feed back received from the website to other cabinet members.
  • VP of External Relations - Educates children about engineering and science. Works with local Girl Scout troops, area schools, and other groups to organize educational engineering and science related activities.

Committees

SWE-ECI members are encouraged to join committees to learn more about SWE and to be more closely involved with the community:

  • Outreach Committee - High School Mentorship Program, Middle School Science Program, Introducing Elementary Kids to Engineering, Getting Volunteers for events.
  • Annual Fund-raiser Committee - Order of the Engineer, Engineers Ball, Maintaining contact with HR from different companies.
  • Student Sections Committee - Point of contact for student sections at UNI, Kirkwood, Maintain information to distribute to groups who want to start a student section.
  • Newsletter Committee - Gather articles from various sources - companies, professionals, students, etc. and provide to Secretary on bimonthly basis (2 newsletters in Fall and Spring, 1 in Summer).
  • Membership/Marketing Committee - Think of programs, ways to get SWE and SWE-ECI represented and known to the community. Get the word out on events, encourage memberships, etc..

Cabinet Elections

Elections for the new cabinet are held at the beginning of the summer each year. A neutral third-party accepts nominations and votes according the bylaws established by SWE-ECI. Information will be posted on the site when closer to the election date.

SWE National
