you! We are pleased to announce a new resource library that is available for
the use of area schools and students.
The library contains books, magazines, CDs, VHS videotapes, and
guidance brochures, all about engineering. All materials may be borrowed for 1 week. The Outreach Chair stores the library
for SWE Hartford. Please contact
Sarah directly to find out more
details about what is available and to borrow any of the materials. Teachers – School Visits
If you are a teacher and would like to arrange for a member of SWE to
give a presentation to your interested science or math class, please contact Sarah. Certificate of Merit Award
Program
SWE Hartford’s
Certificate of Merit Award program celebrates 24 years! SWE recognizes the
importance of basic math and sciences as the building blocks of engineering,
so every spring for the last 24 years we have presented awards to area high
school students in recognition of achievements in math and science. The students and their families that
attend represent approximately 43 high schools in Hartford CT, Springfield
MA, and surrounding areas. There
is a panel discussion with several engineers describing how they got into the
engineering field, what a typical day is like, and what they love about their
jobs. After the award
presentation there is the opportunity to interact directly with the SWE
members and engineers from the panel. Middle school or high school students who are interested in engineering
are invited to attend the event even if they are not an award recipient. Our goal is to provide a forum for
talented students to get the inside scoop on engineering before they go off
to college so they might put some serious consideration into engineering as a
career. If you are a student and
would like to attend, please e-mail Claudette. Space is limited so RSVP is a must. For information regarding this website please click here to contact our web master. |
