DR001: Engineering Kits Grades 6-9 Pittsburgh Development, distribution and use of a set of "engineering exploration kits" for girls in grades K-12 to assemble and test. SWE members act as mentors and role models. Project goal is to mitigate some of the issues that prevent girls from understanding engineering, its specialty areas, and considering it as a career. DR006: Super Engineering Saturday for Homeschoolers and Girl Scouts New York Super Engineering Saturday will begin in the Rider University with a participative engineering quiz, live demonstrations by Dan Weissman and a short film. The children (planned for 300, ages 6-14) will then attend small group workshops on the 5 engineering themes civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical and aerospace. DR007: Engineering Awareness Day Region G MALs Target sophomore and junior high school students, and their math/science faculty and guidance counselors. DR012: Get in Gear Los Angeles Workshop intended to provide engineering and science related activities for elementary school girls (250) to spark an interest in the field of engineering. DR021: SWE Survey - Minority Data Statistics Support to conduct a revised and updates survey with an expanded population to include statistically significant number of minority or under-represented engineers. DR023: SEED Program Baltimore/Washington Continuation of BWS SEED program in order to assist and encourage minority and inner-city women prepare for and choose careers in engineering, science, and technology. The program is based on workshops conducted during engineer's week where participants go through several hand-on engineering workshops. DR055 Engineering Kits K-12 Pittsburgh Section Girls in grades K-12 are targeted to use exploration kits "E-Kits by SWE organizations and others such as Girl Scouts, 4J and schools. The kits "E-Kits" will be designed by college students and selected through a competition and will initially be distributed through a non-profit organization focused on hands-on education for science and engineering. DR057 High Tech Vocations for Young Women with Disabilities Space Coast Section The section will work in conjunction with the Space Coast Center for Independent Living and Florida Institute of Technology to design a pilot program to provide young women with physical, sensory, learning disabilities exposure to technology and science careers. DR059 Email Mentoring Williamette Valley Section The program will provide email mentoring to 5th -8th grade middle school girls. The girls will be chosen through an application process. The program is based on the HP E-Mail mentoring program. EXXON Mobil
DR060 Ready, Set, Take Off for Engineering Pikes Peak Section This program will develop a FUN web site that is designed by and for Junior and Senior High School Students. The web site would be a single resource to find out about careers in engineering, engineering degrees, and what students can do to prepare themselves to enter into an engineering degree. The web site would contain video, sound bites, young people’s language, and lots of "flash" so it is an interesting place for students to visit. EXXON Mobil
DR061 Pinewood Derby Model Car Race Kern County Brief Description – The section will sponsor a Pinewood Derby car race for local Girl Scout troops. The section is required to complete a document describing the model car race program process. The documentation will include a detailed description of the program and where to obtain kits, weights, wheels, and the track and any other information required facilitating other sections to conduct this program. DR062 Diversity Seminar Wichita Area Section The diversity seminar will be a six-hour seminar with lunch for participants. A diversity instrument will be used to help each individual identify areas of bias and sensitivity in a non-threatening atmosphere. The seminar will be advertised to other EXXON Mobil
DR063 Middle School Mentor Program Detroit Section This proposal would fund the development of a new mentor program. The program would be targeted to 7th and 8th grade girls. It is this age at which girls begin to lag academically in science and math fields, due to various social factors. The program’s prime objective would be to encourage and sustain the interest of middle school girls in the pursuit of engineering careers. A science educator will be hired to develop the curriculum for the program. A curriculum manual that will be created that will be made available to other sections. In addition the overall background information requirements will include how to select a science educator to write a curriculum, explanation on the Wayne State grant project guidelines, and details on the number of hours the science educator will spend developing the curriculum. DR064 GetSET Santa Clara Valley Section GetSET (Get Science, Engineering and Technology) is an outreach program which encourages high school girls, that are From groups underrepresented (Hispanic, Native Americans, AFrican Americans and Pacific Islanders) in engineering, to consider and pursue technology careers. The GetSET Summer Week program will be held at Stanford University August 8-11 and will have Freshmen through senior classes participate. The curriculum is rich in hands-on workshops, aimed at teaching creative, team focused approaches to engineering problem solving and basic use of electrical, mechanical and computer based tools. A manual detailing the curriculum and an overview on how to setup a similar program will be made available to other sections electronically or as a manual. EXXON Mobil

Topics included an introduction to blue prints, computer aided drafting, hardward analysis through reverse engineering, and the role of engineering in recycling. Ford
DR090 Engineering a Flight Experiment Video Seattle This project funded a video for 4th through 6th grade students that showcased the efforts of women enginers in the space program. It documented the Materials on International Space Station Experiment which evaluated the effects of space on spacecraft materials. The principal investigators for the project were women. Ford
